Therapy with Leah
My goal as a therapist is to partner with the parent, and work to uncover the true heart of a child, the one hiding behind all the difficult behaviors. My approach is to guide them, using tools that help children appropriately express their needs and emotions. Learning how to identify emotions and express them in a positive way and managing behavior is just as important as any other developmental skill.
My approach is tailored based on the unique developmental and emotional needs presented in a specific situation, using the child as my guide.
I grew up in NY, and originally pursued a business degree, then began working in the fashion industry. I quickly realized the career I was in did not fit me. It was clear to me that something was missing and I longed to wake up to a job that I loved. I wanted to make a difference in the world, and I knew that difference would be with children. This goal prompted a move to Tennessee, where I attended Lipscomb University and received my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
The phrase I use when describing how I feel about my work is it makes me come alive! People will often ask me how I do what I do. My answer is, “I did not choose my career, my career chose me, and it is my passion.” My passion is constantly pushing me toward expanding my expertise through local and national trainings, conferences and valuable opportunities to interact with pioneers in the field. I strive to support children and families by guiding parents in meeting the developmental and emotional needs of their children. I began my career wanting to make a difference, but it is the children who have truly made the difference in me.
In my free time I love to read, and spend time with family and friends! I am not sure if laughing is a hobby but I love to be around people who make me laugh. When you meet me I will most likely have a coffee in my hand!
