Spiritual Wounding & Exploration Support Group
Integrative Therapy of Nashville will be offering a new virtual Support Group for Spiritual Wounding and Exploration. Join Melanie Reese, LMFT, CCTP and Caroline Bravo, LPC-MHSP, on Mondays beginning January 4th, 2021 over Zoom (Registration link below). Specific time will be determined based on those registered.
What is Spiritual Wounding?
One definition offered is a mistreatment of the soul (or spirit) or the most intimate parts of a person’s being. It can also include the misuse of a position of power, leadership or influence to further the interests of someone other than the individual who needs help. This results in spiritual wounding. It can manifest in different forms and environments, including families, friend groups, education institutions and religious organizations.
It can be confusing because lots of people think of religion as a safe place; It’s easy to excuse, overlook or rationalize. It can be isolating and even painful to start to acknowledge your doubts and to come to terms with your feelings and experiences. It may even feel like a betrayal – of God, your family, your community, or even of yourself.
It can be helpful to explore your spiritual self in order to make sense of and become grounded in your personal belief system.
What is Spiritual Exploration?
Although religion and spirituality are sometimes used interchangeably, they really indicate two different aspects of the human experience. Spirituality relates more to your personal search, to finding greater meaning and purpose in your existence.
Religion is most often used to describe an organized group or culture that act with a mission and intention of presenting specific teachings and doctrines while nurturing and propagating a particular way of life.
One of the great gifts of spiritual knowledge is that it realigns your sense of self to something you may not have imagined was within you. When we explore personal beliefs, we do so while respecting the practices of others.
Our beliefs have a profound impact on our lives. Consciously or subconsciously, it influences us in countless ways; Self-worth, relationship with others, messaging about the world around us, morality, our understanding of “good and bad”, views on money and the afterlife, etc
We might have questions such as:
“What do I really believe?
“Am I allowed to doubt?”
“Why am I hyper-critical of everything?”
“Does my fear or doubts mean I’m betraying God, my family or myself?”
What to Expect:
During this 6 week support group, participants this will be a space to explore things such as:
- Spiritual Wounds and how they are are showing up in our daily lives
